Duty watches
« on: November 24, 2009, 03:07:34 AM »
What type of watch do you wear for work?

This site sells most of the common Police / military ones, from the cheaper Casio's to the ridiculously expensive MTM's:

I have a Traser, the older model of this one:

It's lasted me over 7 years so far and it's really been treated rough!

PS - enforce logic - any plans to start selling watches - there's definitely a market there for you as I reckon most bobbies buy a watch for work so they don't have to wreck their nice off duty watch!

People seem to go one of two routes.  1) Cheapo watch, which it doesn't matter if it is broken.  2) Spend enough money on a decent one that'll last.

We used to stock the 5.11 tactical watch but we never sold any, I will take a look at stocking some watches, I agree, we will probably stock some cheaper models and some of the dearer tactical ones.  Watch this space (excuse the pun)!! :)

Was just a cheap casio for me, which is now dead!

Just use the time on my phone now.

Cool - I couldn't have resisted that pun either!

I can't not wear a watch - I feel really weird if I haven't got one on and I end up wanting to know the time even though I don't need to!  Maybe I'm a bit OCD!

Most of the officers in my team wear G-SHOCK watches... I've had my first pair since the early '90's and it's still going but looking a bit tatty... got a new one recently as I wanted a less bulky model and ended up buying one that's solar powered and has its time set via radio signals from someplace or another... very robust and pleased with it... best £50 I've spent on a watch... takes knocks and keeps on going!  8)

Generally I dont like wearing a watch, but at work it's essential.

Something cheep does me, as long as it's 24h, digital and lights up then it ticks the boxes. I personally prefer a velcro strap too.

If you want something really cheap that you really don't have to care about whatsoever, then I know quite a few people wear Casio's bottom of the range original digital watch.  It tells the time and has a light.  Simples!

For me I prefer something I know will last me and, like I say, I've had my Traser a long time despite some severe treatment!

I have seen some called CWC - they are military but look good, also Wenger who make Swiss army knives make a good range starting about £100 to £400, look pretty good tho.

Yeah - British Army issue watches are made by CWC - very good watches indeed.

Had not seen the Wenger ones before - they look nice.

Yes, I know quite a few people who wear those in work and I had one when I was younger too!

I got a cheapie and it was fine till it broke, at least it was only £15 to replace though.  Wouldn't wear a good watch to work, not worth it.

Got to be ruber wrist band - for hygiene reasons. Very handy to be digital purely for the date function - as most will appreciate when compiling a custody at 1 in the morning and your superflash analouge watch is still showing the previous date!
I like the timex ironman watches. Excellent set of functions and reasonably cheap for the quality, however the glass isn't exceptional.
The casio g-shock range is good, hovever, there has been issues that i've had in the past with water getting in.
