Just checked their website - they are not advertising any transfer vacancies and state that they will not accept "speculative" applications.  You'd think with the Olympics on the way, they would be looking to increase in size quite significantly.

Not sure they need the numbers brought up by way of transferees though, my intake consisted of 300 officers, the one after that about 350-400... that's a lot of people to get through training and now with recruiting almost stopped I'm sure they are feeling pretty confident to have most of the intakes from 2009 make it through to the olympics...

Long-term I'd be interested to know what they are going to do with all the extra numbers... after the olympics will the MPS still get the same level of funding to support this larger workforce?  ???

That's an interesting question - they can't make them redundant!

Although I heard a rumour that the met was planning to offer early retirement to officers who had nearly done their 30 with the carrot being you would still receive your full pension as if you had finished.

Maybe this is the solution they've got planned?!

If only they would open up some good specialist department transfers again like they did a few years ago.

I reckon they will nead loads of firearms officers reaady for 2012 so maybe they will recruit next year.  I can see the provincial forces not being happy again though if they start losing experienced police officers...They could always think of training the PCSO's to carry!!!!

I reckon for specialist roles there will be a lot of officers sent from other forces on mutual aid for the olympics - the cost will be built into the budget for the olympics rather than the Met footing the bill.

The Met site is still not showing any transfer vacancies.
I would agree though it would make sense for the Met to use mutual aid as they are going to need a serious amount of specialist officers to cover all of the commitments for the olympics.

Ive just had another look at the site again tonight and they still dont appear to be advertising for normal constable transfer posts however they do have 3 vacancies. They are DS on a Central e-crimes unit. DS or PS on a dedicated armed surveillance unit and DC on a rape and serious secual offences unit. All these appear to be positions I would have thought people within the Met would be fighting for so I have no idea why they have had to advertise externally. Not bad jobs if you have got the relevant experience to apply and transfer directly in to!

If they are going for some new stuff than having experienced people will be of great benefit.
