Handcuff Keys for Recruits
« on: November 08, 2009, 06:23:24 PM »
One of the first things a new recruit seems to want to buy is a long handcuff key.

We have noticed that they often get the class together and make a bulk purchase to help reduce postage charges.
If any of your recruits want to do this, tell them to email us first at mail@enforce-logic.co.uk and we will arrange for them to receive a 10% discount voucher...

The second most useful thing they will probably buy is a Peli Versabrite 3

These handcuff keys should be issued, the short ones are useless. ;)

Completely agree, I remember it being the first bit of none issue kit I bought.  However I do keep a small key tied into the laces of my boots and on my locker keys for emergencies / just encase I lose my long one.

I agree we really should be issued the long handcuff keys, I think some police forces do issue them...

They definitely should be issued, but I think that the small keys are supplied with the cuffs by the manufacturer.  As such most forces will see it as something they don't need to spend money on.

At least handcuff keys are not too expensive, unlike getting a decent torch or boots etc....

At Hendon I got issued an EVEREADY plastic torch with rubber grip... I think it's in the shed now in case I decide to do some gardening at night... with shed I mean BIN... with gardening at night I mean NEVER!  ;)

It did come with batteries though...

Very true... my station actually still stocks batteries for them... apparently the job provides these for free... thing is hardly anyone still uses the MAGLITES because the D-Cells make them rather bulky and heavy... I think most of the torches on team are either AAA or AA... except for my trusty XENON X5 from the forum competition which has some odd shape battery (and very well it works too!!!).

Yeah, most of us use Surefire or some other CR123 battery torch, problem is, like you say, job will only give you D cell batteries as CR123 are v v expensive!  >:(

One of the guys has a handcuff key with a little LED light in, looks like a good idea when you are strugging with a prisoner trying to get the cuffs locked in the dark...

I've got one of these. I think it's called Streamline or silmilar. It is ideal for using cuffs in darker conditions and has a LED at both ends, one for the key and one for the double lock pin.
